We're going to expand...

So there is quite some excitement about this little project we have going here! In addition to getting e-mails and messages from those wanting to participate, I was also messaged by Travis Hellstrom who wrote The Unofficial Peace Corps Handbook offering help if needed. Then there is Amy, the Peace Corps recruiter on the University of Florida campus who has offered to help and try find additional invitees.  Originally, I thought it would be nifty to do 50 PCVs in 50 Countries since we are all heading out during the 50th year of the Peace Corps.  But alas, that would make for too large of a journal!  Two volumes though?  So doable!

The thing is, I am going to need some help.  I need one person who will be serving in a country where internet access is pretty easily accessible to coordinate the second journal.  This means you will need to keep in touch with other PCVs as far as keeping track of who has the book and where it is, in addition to handling the addresses said PCVs.  If you are interested, please e-mail me and we can talk about it!  Thanks Emily J!

21 down, 29 more to find!

  1. Why don't we keep track of who has it where on here and send a list of addresses around with the book so we're not as reliant on the internet? And with shipping times, I feel like there's not a chance 50 volunteers will get the book twice

  2. There is going to be two separate books with two separate groups of volunteers. It will be a "Volume One" and "Volume Two" sort of deal.

Since I don't have all of the addresses, I can't put a copy of it in the book! Otherwise that would have totally been the plan. Hopefully by the time I get it, I can have one compiled to add. If not, I may just e-mail it to everyone in our group.

  3. Oooh the two volumes make way more sense now! Maybe Volume 1 could be January-June staging dates and Volume 2 July-December?

My thought is include a list of training addresses (and how long they're good for) at first, then figure out a way so we can get the site addresses. Ha sorry, like I said, abundant free time = abundant thoughts.

  4. That is what I was thinking. I was semi-going by staging dates when I started making a path for the book to go, but then it would have zig-zagged EVERYWHERE, which would make it take more time to get to people.

  5. yeah I'm envisioning multiple month shipping times trying to bounce it back and forth in order of staging dates. *shudder* oh, and I figured out if we want the Pacific represented in the first half, Fiji's the only one going then (May).

  6. yeah, I say try to put a list of as many addresses in with the book at least to begin with, and then it can be updated (when it is in a country with internet lol). Since I am first, I will definitely need the next address either in the book or before I leave b/c they already told us to not expect to have any e-mail/internet communication for the next couple months.
Also I like the idea of splitting the two volumes by Jan-Jun and July-Dec. And although zig-zagging the book everywhere might be crazy, I feel like it would make it more interesting to read, b/c you won't be reading one similar place after another. But I trust whatever you decide is best!

  7. I mean, you kind of have to do it by staging a little bit because January departures have to get the book before the book is leaving now and you want to make sure it gets to everyone while they're still in-country. Having the Junes get it before the January's isn't going to work so well

  8. Yeah we'll prob have to go to staging dates which is legit and I think fun. I just did a publicity blog about the project on my site :) Hopefully that will refer more participants to the project!! YEAY!!

  9. Hi! I just emailed you, but just in case it goes to junk mail...

My husband and I are headed to PC Costa Rica on Feb. 28th and would love to be a part of this! (Would that mean we have to share pages? Haha). We'd love to hear more about it and would be honored to be included in the journal :)

  10. I'm interested in joining this but there's already someone signed up for Ecuador - can there be more than one volunteer per country?

  11. This is so exciting! Can I make a suggestion? You should add to the 'snapshot' profiles what types the volunteers are- ex. health, agriculture, community development, etc. I think it would be really interesting to find out the different types of volunteers/whatever projects they will be doing :)

  12. Christina- No, sorry! Not unless I cannot find 50 PCVs from 50 countries.

Brittany- I actually have the volunteer assignments on the Google Map at the bottom of the page. If you click on the blue arrows, it pops up! :)

  13. My wife and I are interested in this project. We have been invited to a Special Project leaving in Aug/Sept 011 but will not know anything about it until late April or May. We will keep in touch.
We do not have a Blog yet as we haven't told employers about the leave.
